Simple Delicious Lasagna

This lasagna is incredibly simple and so darn delicious.

By assembling the lasagna 6-24 hours before you plan to bake, the uncooked lasagna noodles absorb the liquid from the sauce giving them the best flavor and the perfect al dente texture.

Never again will I make lasagna any other way. I am so thankful my sister-in-law shared this recipe with me.

Simple Delicious Lasagna

INGREDIENTS

1 lb Italian sausage, removed from casings

1 lb ground beef

1 yellow onion, chopped

1 (26-oz) jar Raos marinara sauce

1 cup water

1 (24-oz) container cottage cheese

1 egg, beaten

1 Tbsp Italian seasoning

12 lasagna noodles, uncooked

16-oz mozzarella cheese, shredded

DIRECTIONS

  1. Brown sausage, beef, and the chopped onion in a skillet over medium heat; drain excess fat. Stir in sauce and water. Simmer over low heat for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

  2. In a bowl, combine cottage cheese, egg and Italian seasoning. Set aside.

  3. Lightly spray a 9x13-inch pan with cooking spray. Spread 1-1/2 cups meat sauce in bottom of pan. Top with lasagna noodles, lengthwise and overlapping to cover.

  4. Top noodles with half of the cottage cheese, top with third of mozzarella cheese. Spoon 1-1/2 cups sauce over cheese. Repeat layering; starting with lasagna noodles and ending with 1-1/2 cups sauce and cheese. Spread with remaining sauce; top with remaining mozzarella cheese. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.

  5. Preheat oven to 350ºF. Bake lasagna covered for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake uncovered an additional 30 minutes, until bubbly. Let stand 15 minutes before serving.
